Please take into consideration
the time of year you plan on celebrating your special day, when
deciding what type of wedding cake you want. Will you be having
an outside tent wedding? Would you like the cake to be out in view?
Of course, all outside weddings are in the warm-weather months.
You may be limited to types of icing or filling you can use in
warmer temperatures.
If you want a fountain as part of your décor, make sure
the spot you have in mind for the cake table has access to electricity.
Having the right spot for the cake table is important. Look around
to see what will be in the background, for example bathrooms, pipes
or anything that would distract from your pictures. And make sure
it will not be in the way of guests walking by.
How do you want the table decorated? Perhaps candles, flowers
or rose petals. Such little details can set your wedding apart
from others. You won’t want ugly table legs showing. Make
sure the table can accommodate the size of your cake.
When deciding on fresh or gum paste flowers, be sure to ask your
florist if the selected flowers are poisonous or have been sprayed
with pesticide!
Some decorations on wedding cakes are not for human consumption.
Make sure the person in charge of cutting the cake understands
this clearly ahead of time. Another good question to ask is if
the hall charges to cut a wedding cake by the slice.
Not all equipment used to set up a wedding cake is disposable.
Please make sure you know ahead of time so you are not charged
for reusable items that are lost or thrown out.
If you plan to save the top of your cake as a tradition for your
first anniversary, let the hall know ahead of time.
